This qualified him for the Land Grant that he requested and was granted in 1850.

 | VanVolkenburg, Adam: Petition to the Crown Lands Department, 1850
Adam VanVolkenburg, mason, of Woodstock in Oxford Co. in 1850 petitions to locate his free grant of land for service in the War of 1812. These documents confirm Adam's participation in the Addington Flank Militia, and his origins in Eastern Ontario.
In addition to evidence of military service (see also Adam's name on the Addington militia paylists), this particular document is important as it is signed by Adam's son John D. VanValkenburg.

 | Research correspondence regarding John VV (1753-?) and Hannah Patterson (1764-?), with possible re-marriage of Hannah to John Jenkins.
Correspondence on file at Lennox & Addington Archives indicates that John Patterson may have left a will in NY state that descendants have consulted. Also, marriage and baptism records pertaining to this couple and other VV's from the McDowell and Langhorn records.
