Possible family of origin for Cynthia b. 1799 Brockville, Leeds Co., who married David VanVolkenburg.

Cynthia VV was probably a Shortt.

based on whom she and David lived with and on whom the widowed Cynthia gifted land holdings to in 1883 before she died.

David and Cynthia on the 1871 census with a widowed Elizabeth Short-Fannell (and her son David)

Elizabeth was b. abt 1829 the d/o ?
Elizabeth had married John Fannell/Fennell (1845) who had d. at age 40 in 1865.

They are buried at Hilton Cemetery (Hilton United Church Memorial Cemetery)

In 1883 Cynthia granted her remaining small land holdings with dwelling at Brighton Con. 4 Lot 5, to James Henry Shortt and his wife Mary J. Roddy-Shortt and it eventually became the property of their son Willett Shortt (and his sisters Mirza and Hazel Shortt).

James Henry Shortt, who received the land in 1883, was b. 1846.  He had a sister named Cynthia b. 1860 (showing the name in the family).  He was the son of James Shortt b. 1817 in Brockville / Leeds, and Mary Taylor.

Perhaps Cynthia was an aunt of theirs.  She herself was born in Brockville abt 1799.  No death record has been found but Sintha VanValkenburg was living with grandson David Fannell's family in Frankford / Hastings on the 1891 census.
