Upper Canada Land Petitions

pertain to Cornelius VV and his wife Lois Davis UE.

Lois Davis's father Thaddeus Davis was banished to Canada following the Revolution, taking land near Allanburgh/Thorold in the Niagara area with other disbanded Butlers' Rangers. Lois Davis made petition for land based on her father's UE status and the newly married couple waited in Niagara until the grant was established in Peel Co. near Erindale-Mississauga. It appears that Cornelius travelled between Niagara and Peel while setting up the homestead, keeping his young family with the Davises in Thorold, and this continued through the War of 1812. Eventually the family settled on their holdings in Erindale.  See map.
