VanVolkenburgh farm adjoined local industry in Milburne near Battersea, Storrington Twp., Frontenac Co.

Homestead of David VV (1789-) and Hezekiah VV (1834-1926) families at village of Milburne.

Hamilton's Tannery at Milburne village

The depiction below is one of few insets in the Walling & Putnam map of 1860, indicating this 'large' factory was known throughout the area (or perhaps Mr. Hamilton paid a premium to have his mill featured).  The David VV and Hezekiah VV land at Con 8 Lot 13 was across the river from the mill as shown on the 1878 Meacham Atlas.

Wider-area maps (1860 and 1878) showing also Battersea, are found here.

An 1865 list of VV land holdings is found here.

Locate the VV farm on a modern map by entering 44.416862,-76.370087 in the Google maps address bar.

How many VV's and extended family members may have worked in these mills?  Are any buildings still standing?
