In Search of a Grave for Henry VV - Hannah Lounsberry

Henry James VanValkenburg was a cooper and had lived between mid-1860's and early 1880's in Hay Township, Huron County (according to census and birth records of children). During that time he lost his first wife Hannah Lounsberry, and remarried Hannah Norton.

Henry died in 1891 at Grand Bend, to the south of Huron, and his burial place, and that of first wife Hannah L., have not been located.

In the 1869 Directory of Ontario, under a town called Johnson’s Mills / Lakeview / Lake View: Henry VV and a James Lounsberry, coopers.

James Lounsberry, on censuses for Hay Twp., is married to Lucinda, and they are old enough to be parents of Hannah Lounsberry. The Lounsberry family may have connected with Henry and his brother John D. VV, while living in Woodstock, 1851.

In modern maps, this area is called Saint Joseph, on the road that leads to the lake from a larger town, Zurich.

We don’t have an 1881 census for the family, however, the first children born to Henry and second wife Hannah Norton, were also born in Hay Twp., and one infant died at Hensall, nearby.

On the 1862 map of the area, near Lakeview is shown a LouisDeneny. I suspect this was a mis-transcription of Lounsberry. James and Lucinda Lounsberry, being elderly at the time, may be buried in the area, and it is worth searching for them, along with Hannah and the infant son of the second marriage. (Assuming the family members would be buried together).
