This file came to attention with earlier commissioned research on another Elgin probate file for a Canadian VV descendant - Sarah VV-Chisholm.  Her will was executed in 1878, the same year as another probate listing for two VV females.  It was determined that these families are un-related.  However, the researcher did take a surface look at the VV file and described it:

"The probate file for Mary is a guardianship file.  It also includes her sister Margaret.  Mary and Margaret were the daughters of Jos. and Eliza C. VanValkenburg.  George, their uncle, was appointed guardian."

The hard copies of these documents may be ordered from elginroots.com.  They may show more information of the circumstances of the family.

It may be inferred that either the James Sidney VV family and/or the George VV family were living in Elgin Township, Kane Co., Illinois, in 1878 (although "Uncle George" is shown to be living in Huntley, McHenry Co. on both 1870 and 1880 censuses and his bio doesn't mention Elgin).  James Sidney's daughter Mary A. VV married William Grote who was Elgin's mayor two terms.
