Notes from submitter Wayne VanVolkenburg:

The following is a map and some information about the location of the Polmont Cemetery, early schools and the Methodist church in the area of Michael's house. Michael was also the first postmaster in the area. The Polmont Cemetery is across the road from the Michael VanV property, but in from Hwy. 30 and about 75 meters. There are several graves sites that are not marked, including, I believe, my Gr. grandmother. I can't prove this but it was the only cemetery available in the area at the time. Her husband, Nathan, is buried at Rockdale Cemetery, N.E. of Havelock. Nathan's two Van V. sisters are buried at Polmont. (Mariah Hardy & Hanah Jane Quackenbush). The following information was from a booklet that was done for 1967 centennial by a high school student, available at the Campbellford Library:

Polmont Cemetery

Earliest dates on tombstones in this cemetery record burials in the early 1870's.

Names recorded there are as follows, Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Scriver, Mr. and Mrs. A.S. Quackenbush, Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Isiac, Ira Lawson. Mariah VanVolkenbug, wife of Martin Hardy was the earliest date found and was 1870.

This cemetery is found on the 13th Concession across the corner from the farm of Mr. Morden MacMillan. (Nelson Wood in 1878)
