Hannah Melissa VV m. Samuel Card (Manitoulin Island) [see tree]

This family is not yet connected to the official genealogy of the VanValkenburg family on the NAVVF site.

In coming months we will be adding photos and scans of original documents directly to individuals in each tree. (We welcome your help with this and you may use this form to contact us or to join this collaborative project as a Contributor).

Hannah Melissa VV b. 1817 in "Ontario" is found, married to a Samuel Card or Caird, in Manitoulin Island in later censuses.  Their children seem to have been born in Camden, Lennox-Addington Co.

I have suspected that Hannah may be a daughter or grand-daughter of John VV and Hannah Patterson who settled in Camden (not just because of the Hannah name).  I find that some of their descendants, notably grandson Sylvester VV, settled further north in Lennox-Addington at Kennebec/Arden/Olden and this is where many Card families are located.

Many of the Camden Twp. VV families were Quakers.  Records indexed and available online reveal two separate women in 1843-1848 time period who were married to men with surname Card.  Hannah, married to an unnamed Card, and Lucetta VV married to a George Card.  These three are mentioned in several sets of minutes.

* Note, the Manitoulin Island libraries report no obituaries in their microfilmed historical newspapers for this couple.
