This family is not yet connected to the official genealogy of the VanValkenburg family on the NAVVF site.

In coming months we will be adding photos and scans of original documents directly to individuals in each tree. (We welcome your help with this and you may use this form to contact us or to join this collaborative project as a Contributor).

Little is known about this branch but a couple census records and marriages.  George "Vanvottenburgh" is found with wife "Unis" in 1851 living at Con 7 Lot 13 in Portland Twp., Frontenac Co.  This is quite a bit further north, into the Rideau Lakes area.  Portland was settled in the 1830's, but earlier than that, the Rideau Lakes townships were the sites of military settlements of disbanded War of 1812 soldiers.  Perhaps the land records for this lot can reveal something.  By the 1861 census, George has died and his widow and grown children have moved south to Ernesttown area (Wilton specifically).  I have not been able to further track the two sons David b. 1834 and George b. 1840.  All members of this family stated they were born in Canada.

This couple were married in 1831 and their marriage notice is the source of Eunice's maiden name "Mattis".  In the same Portland Twp., Frontenac Co. 1851 census is a potential brother of Eunice's who also went by Mattis.  That branch of the Mattice family went by Mattis in various records.
