VV family in the Austin Dam Disaster, 1911, Austin, Potter Co., PA

At the 30th September, 1911, Mary Barnes-VV and daughter Anna were living in the town of Austin, Pennsylvania. According to both the 1900 and 1910 census records, their specific address was on Elliot St.

The dam above the town failed catastrophically and without warning. The water, combined with burning fuel atop the surge, caused an estimated 150 deaths.

Had Mary and Anna perished? I have not found them on subsequent census records. Did the flood wash out the local graveyard where husband David and two children were interred?

UPDATE: In the newspaper in her hometown in Ohio, was reported that Mary did survive. In this brief coverage, nothing was mentioned of a child.

Using records and newspaper articles I attempted to follow Mary Barnes-VV after this episode, and came up empty. She was not mentioned in her mother's obituary.

It was also determined that David VV and the son Frederick, had been interred in the Barnes' hometown of Madison, Ohio.
