Written by Sarah Clark Gardner in the 1940s to become part of the Battersea Women's Institute (Tweedsmuir) History collection. One anecdote that was not copied was concerning Hezekiah VV being a favourite of the local children; they remember he always had candies for them which sometimes took considerable time to produce from his pocket.

The intermarried Merrill and VanValkenburgh families living east of Norwich village, contributed funds, supplies and labour to the building of this historical church. It has recently been moved into town!

Adam's son George Marr VV was born in Strathroy in 1852. George opened the Van Valkenburg Jewelry Store in Forest, Ontario in 1873. The jewelry store is still owned and operated by the Van Valkenburg Family today.

He was a famous trader and interpreter to the Mahicans in the Stockbridge, Massachusetts area. He may be a relation to the "Franses and Abiyal" VV who were taken captive to Canada in 1758 from the area of his family estates.

Although he and his descendants did not come to Canada, he is a relation of the Canadian VV branches who came out of Hoosick, NY after the Revolution. He married his first-cousin Elsje Clauw. Both were grandchildren of Frans Pieterse Clauw who is also an ancestor common to VV-Lourenz-KRANS and VV-John-PATTERSON lines.
