Biography of Jochem VV (b. 1695) of Stockbridge-Sheffield, MA and Nobletown-Hillsdale, NY

See also A Dutchman in Indiantown by Stanley Joseph, 2002 - starts p. 29.

He was a famous trader and interpreter to the Mahicans in the Stockbridge, Massachusetts area. He may be a relation to the "Franses and Abiyal" VV who were taken captive to Canada in 1758 from the area of his family estates.

Although he and his descendants did not come to Canada, he is a relation of the Canadian VV branches who came out of Hoosick, NY after the Revolution. He married his first-cousin Elsje Clauw. Both were grandchildren of Frans Pieterse Clauw who is also an ancestor common to VV-Lourenz-KRANS and VV-John-PATTERSON lines.

These two (females) were taken from "the Province Lands west of Sheffield". They may be related to Jochem VV, interpreter to the Stockbridge Indians who was based in Nobletown/Hillsdale, NY a few miles west of Sheffield, Mass.
