  		Obituary: Catherine VV-Waite (1829-1913), Chicago, IL Kat Von B ?! How did this dedicated suffragist become identified in death as merely the wife of a famous attorney? and with such a botched spelling of the name? Looking at news items in the same papers, suffragists were described as 'rioters' and women were encouraged to take their places as good wives and carers of the poor. Several rights we take for granted that were championed by Catherine and her husband: a woman's right to inherit the estate of her husband, a woman's right to revert to her maiden name after divorce. Although access to med school was denied Catherine, it was opened to the next generations, including her daughter Lucy.
