• Documents		Biography of William Merrill (1817-1894) William Merrill and Hiram VanValkenburg lived near each other near the Norwich Gore along the Oxford Co./Brant Co. border. Hiram was a master carpenter who provided fine-finishing work on Merrill's projects such as church pews and windows. Hiram's son Hiram Hopkins VV married Merrill's daughter and entered into formal partnership with Merrill in later years.

  		In search of a death date for Hiram VV (b. 1807), died at Norwich village, Oxford Co. before 1881. The Woodstock Sentinel-Review newspaper reports on his failing health after an 1878 fall from an apple tree, but no obituary found, and no Ontario death record.
  		Newspaper notice: Marriage of Hiram Hopkins VV to Alice Merrill, 24 Oct 1877. Woodstock Sentinel-Review 2 Nov 1877. Event took place in North Norwich Twp.,Oxford Co. probably at the Norwich Gore Church right on the county line. The Merrill home was in Burford Twp., Brant Co.
