Follick, John K.1849 - 1907 (58 years)DAY TRIP, Haldimand Co. May 2012 Shows locations of Follick/Vollick land holdings, cemetery locations, and photos of the Canfield / Darling Road areas today.
Cornelius Vollick's farm west of Canfield nearby Providence Cemetery. Haldimand Co., North Cayuga Twp. Con 1 NTR (this IS the Talbot Rd.) Lot 17:
In Canborough Twp. southwest of Canboro town, the former community of Darling Road is not shown on Google streetview. This modern aerial view shows the locations of the photos:
At the T of the Concession 1 Rd S., view to the SE across what is John Follick's property on the 1879 Page Atlas. Darling Rd. is viewable as a bridge crossing a stream near the red barn:
This century home is on the land owned by George Follick on the 1879 Page Atlas. The Union Jack flag is prominent against the regular-sized modern flag. I would guess the current owners may be Loyalist descendants. The mailbox had a surname other than Follick. The style of the house with a single chimney and steeper-gabled roof may indicate a post-Confederation construction. This home is in the area that would have formerly been a railway siding hamlet called Darling Road. The area is still rural with few homes, and most of those remaining are modern bungalows.
The same white house, east side. And concerning the railway lines and "town"? I didn't see any "commercial" buildings or mills. The former railway beds were prominently raised with sloping sides. The photo at right shows a modern bungalow and its driveway built right on top of the former line. The house across the street was the same:
A pretty hamlet tucked away...
